Early or late Metallica?

So I chose late Metallica because, while I like early, I believe they improved their sound as they progressed. Also, I hate the kind of stereotypical elitism that goes on around metal and hardcore bands.

Early metallica

When Dave Mustaine had a hand in the lyrics and the sound.

Most people dont realize how much of him is in their early music.

They booted him, and their sound changed.
It got wimpier, the chords easier, and Lars was exposed for the crappy drummer he really is.

I only say that because I compare everyone to Dave Lombardo Laughing
And frankly noone can hold a candle..

Dave wrote 80% of the lyrics, performed- taught- most of the chords when he was sober, and kept the angry edge they were trying to get in their music.

He left

And Justice for All came out..
Ehh.. they were still pretty good..
then

Black Album came out and you could see their real lyric talent.

But I cant rip on them too bad, I mean alot of people cheat to make their music sound heavy by playing in Drop D.

Drop D can make a nursery rhyme sound like heavy metal.

But.. really.. I will lay off of them.. hehe
I couldnt play what they do. Though, a part of me would have the nerve to drum next to Lars.. a small part of me.. Cool

You know, for a live show, he has his 4 and 8 beats pre recorded?
Usually his double bass as well.

kinda wimpy you ask me..

makes ya wonder what he is doing back there to get him all sweaty..

Unfortunately I heard that they aren't gong to start the tour until after the Chicago date due to Araya's gallbladder surgery.

Might just have to take a road trip to Texas.

Unlike Sellout, er I mean Metallica, Slayer has kept the same intensity throughout their career.

Absolutly.
You would have a blast here with all of the local metal bands.
On any one given night, you can see at least 3 bands performing.
1 out of those 3 will be worth the door ticket price.

Im surprised that metallickers are still selling their albums frankly.

Not only are they not the same sound, but they are technically not the same band.

I understand peoples desire to explore their own creative styles and such,
but this isnt an exploration... this is an 'alteration' so to speak.

They dont even believe in the music they started out making . They have, on some occasions claimed that ' metal is the music of possible satanists'
Rolling Eyes

And, all except the little sweetie guitarist , have crosses tattoed on their chests/arms etc and claim to have found jesus.
Not raggin their religous choices, but it sucks that they have moved so far away from where they started, yet people still flock to them as if they are rock gods or something like that.

Ill get off my metallicker high horse now.. Laughing

Pantera is another example. Pantera stayed the same, when they wanted to explore different sounds or types of music they created different bands. Down, Superjoint, and Damageplan.

Down was one of Phils side projects, fairly tame compared to Superjoint Ritual but some great music. Think bluesy metal.

Hmm, yeah I voted a bit to fast as well..I like them up to and including the black album...after that, I liked two tunes off of "Garage", but those really don't count since they were covers.

Early Metallica.

Ever since they turned into whiney little girls about Napster, I lost interest in sampling their newer music.
