Proud and Prejudice?? All my life I never heard of any such novel!

Hey pal...Its Pride and Prejudice. Atleast, in the subject line you should have got the spelling right. LOL. Smile

Pride and Prejudice is also one of my favorite novels too. I can re-read it still and I am now well out of school. I do not think I have seen the show you are referring to - I did see one (besides the most recent one). I borrowed it from the library so potentially it is the same BBC produced one.

Personally, I prefer War and Pieces over Proud and Prejudice.

I found Sense and Sensibility more entertaining that was Pride and Prejudice. All of Austen's novels are good--i consider the most entertaining in the humorous sense to be Northhanger Abbey. I consider Mansfield Park to be the most successfully satiric. I consider Persuasion to be the best, and the most "serious." I recommend all of her work.

I liked all of Austen's works except Emma. After reading it a second time (I've read all of them at least twice) I realised that it wasn't the book I disliked so much as the main character. It gave me a much greater apprecitation for the book if it could instill such a negative reaction to the character.

I'm in the middle of listening to a tape of "Emma". Somehow although I know I did read it several centuries ago, I can't remember the story, and I'm enjoying it like crazy.

Would it help you if we corrected your English? For example the above would be better as:

Yes, War and Peace is also an excellent one. But don't you think that Pride and Prejudice is more romantic? Maybe I'm not realistic -- I don't like to face facts.

(I didn't try to change any words, only their usage. The first word of every sentence should be capitalized, as well as proper nouns. Book titles should be italicized or otherwise differentiated. "An" is the correct article if the next word begins with a vowel. Although there is nothing technically wrong with your use of "do not", all English speakers would contract it to "don't" in these sentences.)

I once heard that Jane Austen was an excellent guide for the English language -- perfect grammar and punctuation. So Jacqueline, if you enjoy her novels, read and study how she writes, and your own English is bound to improve.

I hope this helps.
