Teens produce anti-smoking film
May, 17 2006 - 12:20 AM

VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) - A special screening event in downtown Vancouver was held Tuesday night, an expose of the tobacco industry by its youngest targets.

Vancouver Coastal Health and Health Canada needed to get an old message to a new audience. But, how do you get young people to pay attention to an anti-smoking promotion? You get them to produce it.

Young filmmakers submitted almost 60 public service announcements.

Carmine McCutcheon says it wasn't just the chance to win a thousand dollars, "It was a good opportunity to show off my film prowess as well as say something about how much I despise cigarettes."

McCutcheon's piece is called Tar Wars, The message being, too many people go over to the 'dark side' every year.
