A Mother's Crown

Heaven lit up with His mighty presence,
As all the angels looked down,
Today the Lord was placing the jewels,
In all the mothers' crowns.

As He held up a golden crown,
As all the mothers looked on,
He said in His gentle voice,
"I just want to explain each stone."

He held the first gem in His hand
But the radiance couldn't match His own.
For He is the Light of Heaven,
Reflecting off each of the stones.

"The first gem," He said, "is an emerald,
And it's for endurance alone,
For all the nights you waited up.
For your children to come home.

For all the nights by their bedside,
You stayed till the fever went down,
For nursing every little wound,
I add this emerald to your crown."

"A ruby, I'll place by the emerald,
For leading your child in the right way,
For if you hadn't taught them about me,
They wouldn't be here with you today.

For always being right there,
Thru' all life's important events,
I give you a sapphire stone,
For the time and love you spent."

"For untying the strings that held them,
When they grew up and left home,
I give you this one for courage."
Then the Lord added an amethyst stone.

"I'll place a stone of garnet," He said,
"For all the times you spent on your knees,
When you asked Me to take care of your children,
And them for having faith in Me."

"I have a pearl for every little sacrifice,
That you made without them knowing,
For all the times you went without,
To keep them happy, healthy, and growing."

"And last of all I have a diamond,
The greatest of all gems,
For those mother's who lost their children,
When they came home to heaven before them."

"This is the most precious sacrifice,
So I give the most precious stone,
For I know just how you felt,
I too lost a child of My own."

After the Lord placed the last jewel in,
He said, "Heaven is now complete,
For every mother has her crown of jewels,
And all her children are at her feet."

Thanks for starting this. Happy Mothers' Day to my mother, my mother-in-law, and my two sisters-in-law. And, of course, to all of the mothers of A2K:

The Eshet Chayil wrote:
A Woman of Valor

A woman of valor who can find?
For her price is far above rubies….

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her,
And he hath no lack of gain.

She doeth him good and not evil
All the days of her life…

Strength and dignity are her clothing…
Her children rise up and call her blessed…

Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain;
But a woman that fearth the LORD, she shall be praised.

Give her the fruit of her hands;
And let her works praise her in the gates.

Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers, especially boomerang

You were there when we took our first steps,
And went unsteadily across the floor.
You pushed and prodded: encouraged and guided,
Until our steps took us out the door...

You worry now "Are they ok?"
Is there more you could have done?
As we walk the paths of our unknown
You wonder"Where have my children gone?"

Where we are is where you have led us,
With your special love you showed us a way,
To believe in ourselves and the decisions we make.
Taking on the challenge of life day-to-day.

And where we go you can be sure,
In spirit you shall never be alone.
For where you are is what matters most to us,
Because to us that will always be home...

Yep, there's nothing like Moms. They're the best.

I sent my Mom a card, and took her out to dinner last night. But it didn't seem like enough. She's done so much for me, and I'm so lucky she's my Mom.

I wish I could've done more for her. But her birthday's coming up in July, maybe I can plan something special for her then.

Stray Cat, I am sure you'll do plenty for her. My mother always tells me
that she appreciates my weekly phone calls far more than a call just on
Mother's Day.

That's what I tell my little one too: Be attentive and considerate all year long,
and Mother's Day becomes insignificant.

That's a good idea, CJ. I'm going to make a point of calling my Mom at least once a week, just to chat. I think she'd like that! Smile

You just have to love Mother's Day. A celebration born of women calling for better sanitation, equality and for peace.

Thankyou, CJane, your kindness means a lot to me. I called my mother today to wish her happy mother's day and to ask her to write me a reference letter. She got all choked up and said that my request was the "best mother's day gift she had ever been given". You were so right about the asking.

Everyone is posting poems but I'm going to tell a story.

When I was in high school I got a job as a bus girl at a neighborhood bar. Going to work each day was like entering the Psychic Fair: the cook read your cards, the owner read your stars, the bartender read your palm and then we all set about serving booze to oil industry executives.

I wasn't really a believer in these things but I needed the job and it was so way better than the fast food jobs my friends were getting that I kind of dug it. Plus, the place had great music (Joe Nation played there, among others) and my 15 year old self got to hang out in a bar that I would never otherwise get to go to.

Okay... back on traack... one day, the bartender read my palm and announced "your luck in the world will be that you will always find a succession of mothers".

And she was right.

Besides my own mother, I have always been lucky to have women and men, older and younger, who have been my mothers.

Many of them are right here on A2K and they know who they are. To all of them who happen across this I wish them a happy day of sanitation, equality and peace.
