My mother went into the hospital due to Post Polio Syndrome exacerbated by Pneumonia.
My closest friend of over 30 years has suffered a heart attack and is off work for a month.
My Father after a long struggle with Parkinson's succumbed last year.
I am diagnosed with Intestinal Lymphangiectasia.
Chumly--
You certainly have your plate full in the Merry Month of May. Sometimes life is one damn thing after another.
Hold your dominion.
That all pretty much sucks, and I''m saddened to read it. Keep in mind, though - its easier to find something if you look for it - set your sights on som joy and see what happens.
Of course, never forget that a pessimist rarely is overtaken by unpleasant surprises
Thanks, I am sure you all have had your share of sorrows too.
Chumly--
Life comes with Grief. I come with an Attitude.
Of that I have noted both, but given the option of dealing with only one, yours is the lesser of two evils by a country mile.
Anyone else wanna put their 2 cents of sorrow in they're welcome to.
Sorry about all this, chumly. I don't understand what that is you are diagnosed with.
Chumly, sorry to hear this! I am in the dark as to what your disease is, too.....
That makes two of us brother!
I have been researching it for a long time, it's very rare and very peculiar. I guess I can't just have a weak eyeballs or arthritic joints like the masses.

chumley : very sorry to hear of all your troubles !
this sounds very serious ; sure hope there is some hope for you somewhere ! hbg
(chumley's disease is a : "Protein-losing Enteropathy is a fancy way of saying there is something wrong with the intestine such that protein is being lost from the body through the intestine ".
this seems like a very serious disease for sure)
Chumly - sometimes it seems like everything hits at once and really tests our resolve and mental strength. I know you are stronger than what the world is throwing at you right now. I'll keep you in my thoughts.
(You're eating low fat, right?)
Sounds like the lymph vessels of the small intestine aren't doing their job.
Yup I stay away from long chain triglycerides, in fact I am jokingly on a diet not that dissimilar to good dog food. Only the cleanest, purest and simplest of foods. Rice, fish, vegetables steamed or boiled. Woof!
No dairy, only homemade bread, no restaurant food, no alcohol no fancy beverages, no this, no that.
My wife puts my bowl in the corner three time a day! Grrr.... stay away from my bowl.
chumley
CHUMLEY :good to see that you have not lost your humour completely !
(when ebeth's dogs - bailey and cleo - visit , mrs h makes a special broth for them : vealshanks , boiled and served with carrots - they approve of it)
wishing you all the best ! hbg
If I read your link correctly, Chumly, your condition is usually secondary to an underlying illness in adults. Positive treatment outcomes are dependant on treating the underlying condition. Have they identified what's causing the lymphangiectasia or is it being considered primary?
Quote: Intestinal lymphangiectasia can be primary (ie, congenital), in which case it affects children and young adults. The diagnosis in those cases occurs during the first decade of life, with the first manifestations being persistent diarrhea and peripheral edema. This condition can also be secondary to other disease states, thus affecting older adults. * Secondary lymphangiectasia may involve multiple physical findings, depending on the etiology.
Causes:
* Abdominal or retroperitoneal carcinoma
* Lymphoma
* Cardiac diseases
o Constrictive pericarditis
o Congestive heart syndrome
* Crohn disease
* Mesenteric tuberculosis
* Sarcoidosis
* Whipple disease
* Chronic pancreatitis
* Scleroderma
* Celiac disease
* Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
* Retroperitoneal fibrosis
* Intestinal endometriosis
* Sclerosing mesenteritis
* Lymphenteric fistula
Sorry you're facing this, Chumly.
So, the loss is a problem because the body doesn't get to use the protein, or because the leaching can negatively affect the abdominal cavity?
Hi J_B,
To the best if their ability at this time they have ruled out all secondary causes and it's more or less considered primary which arguably makes it that much weirder. I have files of tests done that weigh a few pounds (in paper not stool samples) and many of the specialists know me by name.
They like to fling around terms like "idiopathic".
idiopathic.... hmmmm... I kind of like that term.
Oy! Chumly..very sorry to hear it. Take care, and all of those protein supplements!

In essence, the potential problem is one of mal-absorption, from a dietary perspective, at least as I understand it, someone correct me if I am wrong.
So, you eat protein excessively and hope you get enough?
