I Need A Bedtime Story

I was just thinking....when I was just a little Stray Cat, my cousin Sally and I would stay at our grandparents house sometimes, and my grandmother would make up these great bedtime stories for us.

She would say, "Once upon a time, there were two little bad girls...named Stray Cat and Sally..."

Then she would tell some great, funny story. I loved those stories.

She'd never tell them the same way twice, she'd always come up with something different each time.

Well....I'm getting sleepy and I could use a good bed time story.

Got any? It can be true or you can make something up. I'd just like a story.

Please?

A classic story from Peanuts:

A man was born, he lived and he died. The End.

One dark, windy night, the town drunk was meandering his way home after the bar closed. Somehow he got turned around and ended up walking through the churchyard instead of taking the road home.

The wind picked up and he thought he could hear a voice calling his name. Suddenly, the ground opened up in front of him, and he fell down, down into an open grave! He could hear the voice clearer now, calling to him. He knew it was the devil, coming for him just like the preacher said, on account of him being the town drunk.

The hole was very deep and inside it was pitch black. His eyes adjusted to the darkness after a few moments, and he made out a form sitting in the darkness with him. It called his name, and he scrambled away in fear, trying to climb out of that terrible grave. Then the figure spoke. "You can't get out," it said.

The drunk gave a shout of pure terror and leapt straight up more than six feet. He caught the edge of the hole in his hands, scrambled out, and ran for home as fast as he could go.

Inside the open grave, his neighbor Charlie sighed in resignation. He'd fallen into the hole a few minutes before his friend and had thought that together they might help each other climb out. Now he was going to have to wait until morning and get the mortician to bring him a ladder.

Once upon a time, (because every good bedtime story starts with Once upon a time now doesnt it)

In a land far far away there lived two small gumnut babies called Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.

It just so happens that when cuddlepie was very small- that is when he

had only been out of the bud for a few hours - a great wind arose and,

snatching him out of his mothers arms carried him far across the tops of the

gum tres eventually depositing him in a spider web.

This of course saved his life, but again he nearly lost it, for a short sighted

old bird mistaking him for a grub was about to eat him up when large

gum nut- beholding the scene shouted BIRD BIRD LOOK OUT FOR THE SNAKE.

The old bird was very frightened and flepped maddly away.

The kindly Gumnut climbed up into the spider web and gently lifted the

cold weeping little gumnut baby and carried him home.

This was the home of Snugglepot and the kind nut was Snugglepots father.

Twas here then that Cuddlepie lived side by side with snugglepot and they

grew fat and strong. Just like in this picture

Now close your eyes and snuggle down into bed and perhaps .....if you are a good little stray all day tomorrow I will tell you some of the adventures that snugglpot and cuddlepie have had.

Nighty night

I love this one:

Onc't they was a little boy wouldn't say his prayers, --
So when he went to bed at night, away up stairs,
His Mammy heerd him holler, an his Daddy heerd him bawl,
An' when they turn't the kivvers down, he wasn't there at all!
An' they seeked him in the rafter-room, an' cubby-hole, an' press,
An' seeked him up the chimbly-flu, an' ever'wheres, I guess;
But all they ever found was thist his pants an' rounda-bout: -

An' the Gobble-uns'll git you

Ef you

Don't

Watch

Out!
