Isn't it amazing how our sense of smell can trigger a memory so vividly and out of the blue?
The other day, I opened the door to the hallway that leads to the ladies room and got a big whiff of a mans cologne. Immediately, I thought of my first real boyfriend. And the memory was vivid and fresh like it was yesterday. Totally bizarre. I literally haven't smelled that smell for 10 years.
What memories have you had triggered by an unexpected scent?
the smell of bandaids in thier containers remind me of kindergarden
a whiff of either of these would instantly send me back about 35 years --
. . . .
Well, you know, there's only 2 things that smell like tuna fish....
Tuna fish sammich and tuna casserole?
Close. One of 'em's tuna fish....
Oh, man, I know exactly what you mean. It seems to me that smells trigger my memories more clearly than anything else-- things I don't even know I remember just come flooding back if I get a whiff of the right smell...weird!
Good thread topic, Bella.
humid spring air reminds me of my childhood.
i cant quite label the smell better then that
It really just amazes me that smell is so linked with our memories.
And it really amazed me the memories that came back.
The smell of incense always reminds me of smoking pot.
Never mind why.
The smell of Gus reminds me of my dog on a wet day.
You've actually gotten close enough to Gus to
(shudder!) smell him?! You are a brave man indeed, LordE.
you dont really have to be THAT close..
just down wind a few miles...
The smell of Grey Flannel cologne by Geoffrey Beene reminds me of an attorney I practiced with. Now, I enjoyed the scent, but he more or less bathed in it.
I recall I lost a job opportunity once, several years ago, the interviewer actually mentioned to me the fragrance I was wearing, Lauren by Ralph Lauren, and he also told me his ex-girlfriend had worn it. Sure enough, I didn't get that job. Hmmm.
