Armless speedster shocks New Zealand police
WELLINGTON (AFP) - A New Zealand police officer could not believe his eyes when he found the motorist he stopped for speeding at 121 kilometres per hour (75 mph) had no arms.
The 32-year-old disabled driver was using one foot to steer and the other to operate the pedals when he was stopped in the Bay of Plenty on the west coast of the North Island.
He told the shocked police officer he was born with no arms and he had never held a driver's licence.
Acting Senior Sergeant Deidre Lackfor said she had spoken to several officers with lengthy careers and none had heard of anything remotely like it.
She said she had nothing against people with disabilities driving but "obviously driving at a speed like that, arms or not, you're just waiting for an accident".
The 32-year-old was fined 170 New Zealand dollars (103 US) and barred from driving.
They better confiscate the car, then.
Agreed. If the person never held a driver's license to begin with, what's to stop them from going right back at it?
Oh come on! He'd been driving how long and this is the first time he'd been pulled over?
Reyn, was it you who posted the vid of the armless mother?
Well, you have to hand it to him....
Ironic that he was apprehended by the long arm of the law, though.
I feel for the guy. Obviously nobody would lend him a hand.
You're really out on a limb!
Lucky for the cops that he wasn't armed.
Although he would have been easy to disarm...
you put your finger on it!
He got off with a slap on the wrist...
They let him go after they concluded he was mostly 'armless...
Well, if this is going to court, I hope he has a leg to stand on.
I'd be curious what kind of verdict it would hand down...
I wonder how he will swear on the bible - with his right foot?
He should be happy to get away with a fine like that. If he'da pulled a prank like that over here it woulda cost him an arm and a leg.
I wonder who fingered him to the cops?
