The original lyrics for ring around the rosie:
Ring around the rosie,
Pockets full of posies, Atishoo, Atishoo,
We all fall down.
Ring around the rosie were the rings that the bubonic plague(black death)
left on peoples skin.
Pockets full of posies were the pockets of flowers people carried around to rid the smell of the dead rotting bodies,
Atishoo, Atishoo could either relate to the tissue they held up to their mouth to breath without inhaling pesticides, or sneezing, which was a common symptom of the Black Death,
We all fall down, is we all die.
yep you knew that but thanks anyway
welcome on board. Go to Snopes.com and in the search block , just type in "Ring around the rosie" Theres a few very compelling arguments that say that your statement is incorrect. One of the most compelling is that the first time this little ditty appeared in print was in a kids book in 1851. Another argument against the Plague story is that there are many variations of the poem and the explanations.
I believe someone posted this same point a while back
