Janitor Shot At After Throwing Crackers Away
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A maintenance man said he was just doing his job when he threw away some crackers left in the hallway of a Providence, R.I., apartment building.
But he said the owner of the crackers got so angry that he tried to shoot him. Fortunately, the gun misfired.
Joseph Perry told police the man was keeping the crackers in the hallway to feed to birds or squirrels, and became enraged when Perry threw them out.
Perry said the man took out a gun and pulled the trigger -- but the gun misfired. After a struggle, Perry was able to run away and call 911.
Police said it's very unusual for a gun to misfire.
The 69-year-old man is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and a weapons charge.
