This is a sad day, indeed.
I've always used 'craven' in my rambling put-downs. Since high school. I felt it denoted some godless evil.

I'm disappointed. It merely denotes 'base cowardice'.

So, this is obviously not related to goths-- a murky band of those who wear black and listen to Suicidal Tendancies... not to be mistaken with Germanic barbarians-- or, then again...

Heard a story about some Swedish or Norwegian death metal band lately whose fan was injured by a flying severed goat's head at one of their concerts. Turns out they were hacking it apart on stage. Some long history of former band members killing each other and making jewelry out of each others' bones or something. Struck me that they were very serious about their death metal there, and got me to wondering how freaky their goth scene must be.

Now where did that emailed story of dubious origination go....

I just liked the clothes and the make-up.... and rough sex....

I don't think this is standard Goth behavior, but an 18-year old girl whose family I was close to, was into Goth culture, and wound up being shot to death in a graveyard in the middle of the night by her Goth friends. One of the other kids present at the time killed himself with a shotgun a few days later. It apparently wasn't about drugs or sex-- it was just about playing with death.

Ugh.

I think these kids are basically misfits.

I think the Columbine boys were members of such a group. It's horribly sad and wasteful.

what my question is, is what could be the lure of such a culture that kids and young adults would die over it?

I also can't figure out serial killers or criminals either...
