Ok, so what is a postal money order?

Is what he describes a reasonable way to pay for and ship something?

Or is this a really good scam?

If you look at the item I am selling, you will see my problem.
1) To SHIP that sucker would be about 100.00 bucks. That doesnt include packaging because it has to be packed to withstand a 30 foot drop.
That means double boxing, peanuts, bubble wrap and more foam.

2) this is not a cheap piece of equipment. We are selling it cheap to hurry up and get rid of it. But we are in no place to just 'lose it' to a scam.

Im not sure what to think.. ?

If this is true, I wont have to pay for shipping..
But why would someone want to pay MORE for an item then what is being asked?
And how can someone that far away TRUST me.. .. an unknown seller.. in another country? Honestly.. I could just send him a box full of stones.?
It doesnt make sense.

Check out what's highlighted in yellow at the top of the page:

Quote:
Avoid scams & fraud by dealing locally:
· non-local deals involving shipping, wire transfer, or cashier checks are usually fraudulent
· there are no such things as "craigslist payment system", "craigslist buyer protection", or "craigslist seller certification"
· please report scam attempts to [email protected]

ah-hah..

yup yup. I see that now.. Embarrassed

and here is what else they say -

scams and fraud

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most people who use craigslist have great stories to tell about their experiences with buyers, sellers, tenants, landlords and such, but we also receive occasional reports of scams and fraud. We've found that one of the best ways to avoid this problem is to keep all transactions local -- whenever possible, don't do business with anyone who is not in your local area.

Use caution and common sense when dealing with any financial transaction:

DEAL ONLY WITH LOCAL BUYERS AND SELLERS! Most non-local inquiries on craigslist are scams.
NEVER wire funds to a distant buyer, via Western Union or any other carrier
Be wary if the other party wants to use an escrow service such as BidPay or Squaretrade
NEVER give out personal financial information (checking account number, SSN, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)
trust your instincts, and always remember the most important rule -- BUYER BEWARE
If you think you have been scammed, contact the non-emergency number for your local police department -- they may be able to offer advice about your options

That email is a little confusing. He's offering to send you a money order? That sounds ok but a little trusting of him. What information does he need from you, an address to send the MO?

I don't trust any of it, the shipping to his daughter abroad is weird and the language/ syntax is not that of someone who has a daughter old enough to be living abroad.

I didnt ask.

And yeah.. he is WAY too trusting.
Sight unseen purchase.. and wants to pay me more then what I have listed it for.

AND- he says ""so that we can close
the auction """

uhh.. this isnt an auction...

too many things make me confused. Too many questions and an assumed TON OF trust..

i dont think I like it..

another red flag was this line for another reason --

,i will offer you
($600.0 0)for the Emu E-5000 Ultra Sampler (pics) so that we can close
the auction

it is exactly what I had in the sale listing. Including the add in ( pics) ...

cut and paste anyone?

There could be that (non-English speaker) but overall it's very iffy to me, and the fact that craigslist specifically warns against this kind of thing (I see the warning probably 10 times a day -- I'm still looking for some stuff) makes it even more uh-uh to me.

Yeah, good catch. Definitely seems like something that he tries on a lot of people/ situations, copying and pasting the relevant item.

another good point.

The other letter I got was worded very well. Plain, understandable, NON broken english,

Quote:
Hello,
I will like to know whether your display item is still available for
sale? Let me know about the present condition.
Thanks.

Scam, scam, scam. It's some con artist typing away in his little tin roof boiler room. The payment notification will be faked and the fact that he wants the item shipped out the country and is willing to pay more than the asking price is a real tip off. Odds are what he really wants is your banking information (claiming to make the deposit) so he can suck it dry.

Shewolf, if you are going to sell outside of your area you might want to consider a Paypal account.

Or just stay in your area!

Austin seems like a good place to sell something like that (though I have only the vaguest idea of what it IS..! heh)

Im not going to sell outside of the area. I cant afford that shipping. No way no how.

so that isnt an option

Even if this was legitimate..
Im not sure this equipment would survive..

It is a music sampler.
Basically, it has preset " sounds" that you can add on top of other sounds to make techno style music.

You can also sample the sounds of your own musical stuff and play them on the system and create songs with out ever turning on your guitar..

I suspect that the postal money order would turn out to be counterfeit or the payment stopped. There's another scam where they send a money order that's too large and ask you to 'em the extra cash....

You're selling an EMU? Is it male? I am looking for a mate? Can I drop down to Tex-ass and try him out?
