According to the stats I found on the US per capita income, it was $26,900 as of December 2003, still one of the highest in the developed countries. I'm not sure how to property translate this, because income is but only one part of the bigger picture of how one is able to survive economically from region to region, and from state to state. It's a tough call. I'm sure it's also true of many countries around the world where living standard of one city compared to another doesn't necessarily translate from income alone.
