I live in the boonies so DSL and cable are not an option. I had an ISP through work but it was getting slow and unreliable so after hearing rave reviews and a personal recomendation I went with netzero. WHAT A JOKE! I've had netzero for three weeks now and opted for their G3 upgrade to go faster
I need a new ISP and am looking at Copper.net any other ideas? BTW I think netzero has spyware that senses when I am about to change ISPs as 5 times now when I was about to finalize my transaction with a new ISP netzero mysteriously disconnected. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?
I seriously doubt the disconnects have anything to do with your intention to finfd another provider. Anyhow, I'm not a fan of national ISPs - I recommend wherever and whenever possible you go with a more or less local solution; your local phone company, cable system, or independent provider. See what your phone company offers - whether you have dialup or DSL, if you use your phoneline to connect, you're connecting through your phone company anyway, regardless who your provider is. Why add another bill-issuing layer to the stack if it isn't necessary? You might find they have a local, long distance, and internet bundle that affords an overall savings compared to whatever your current setup might be.
Oh, btw ... DSL or some other broadband option may be available to you sooner than you might think. I live way out in the boonies, and I've had DSL for years now - its rolling out at a good pace nation wide. Also coming down the pike at a good clip is Powerline Connectivity - internet and more over the electric grid.
Earthlink is national, but worked real well for me, untill.... Well, I never used their email service, they changed dialup numbers and notified my by email. Theirs, not mine.
Our local Brainstorm.net has been flawless, but they're in the 4 corners area. I doubt they are quite into parallel universes, yet.
I signed up with Copper.net. So far so good. Waiting for SBC/Yahoo DSL to reach me. Should be soon I hope.
