I found a cool Atlas via some website or other and completely forgot to save it. It was linked to right before Christmas.
This particular atlas was full of historic maps and was the size of a coffee table book. I don't believe it included anything modern day. It cost approximately $200. Has anyone seen the book I'm thinking of, or something like it?
I've done searches on Amazon and Barnes and Noble by price and publication date with no luck.
I had one years ago from the National Geographic Society . . . see if it helps to do an online search for them . . .
I don't think I've found it either, but wanted to drop a link to the closest I got:
National Geographic Atlas Of World History
I have a historical atlas set, six volumes...from the dawn of time til now....but I can not think of the title...horrible with titles....anyway, it's a contemporary set, so it does not contain any reprints of ancient maps or that type of thing, but I enjoy the books, mainly because of the ease of use...really nice little books, I'll see if I can track them down.
I did finally run across an atlas that I've had my eye on for some time, but was waiting for the price to fall...The Official Military Atlas Of The Civil War. I believe that it started off in the 75.00 range, and I picked it up for a little over 20 bucks. I do this quite often, and sometimes I lose the book in question...wait a bit too long, but it's the price I pay for being frugal. In the case of the Military Atlas, it was hard for me to justify spending 80 dollars {with tax} on what is, albeit a very nice book, but yet basically a supplemental text.
There are some histories of cartography published containing a lot of ancient maps.
The ones I mentioned earlier...

That is the first of the series, Ancient World 4,000,000-500 BC....followed by
Classical - 500 BC - 600 AD
Medieval - 600 - 1492
Early Modern - 1492 - 1783
19th Century - 1783 - 1914
20th Century - 1914 - 1999
I've yet to run across anything better.
