Sometimes, I would like to post a link to a web page on this forum. I just noticed, that many sites have something written on top like, "Welcome Phoenix32890" (but with my REAL name). That is because I am subscribed to that site.
Would my real name show up on another person's computer if I posted the link, or does that only show up on MY computer? My concern is about privacy.
Dang! If all else fails, email the link to a trusted friend and ask. I can't think of another way to be totally sure.
Your name should NEVER show. That site knows who you are because you've been there and the site has placed a "cookie" on your PC. If anyone else goes to the same link - no cookie - so the site doesn't know who they are...
I've posted links on Abuzz hundreds of times and not once was anyone automatically logged in as me...
Nope, it won't show up (assuming the name is dynamically inserted and the page you are talking about doesn't really just say hi phoenix).
This is usually based on cookies.
Now if you get a session ID in your link it's possible. But that's very very rare. On this forum for that to happen you'd have to share the same IP address as the person receiving the link.
So:
It's possible (in very rare situations). But should not happen.
fishing,
I can automatically log in as you on Abuzz through a link (well sort of).
