So I am moving into my new place this weekend. But the cable won't be hooked up until Feb. 8th. Holy crap, I don't know what to do without these things for so long. I'm waaaaaay too addicted to TV AND the internet--namely, this site.
So I'm thinking about what to do with myself during this three-week period of disconnect.
I was thinking I could try to write a book. Er, well, I mean, at least try to start writing one. Or maybe pull out that old horror story that I started long ago and see how far I can get with it. Or maybe a short story.
I guess I will probably be busy for a while unpacking stuff and looking for stuff for the apartment like curtains/blinds and whatever other crap I might need, but I don't know if that will fill up three weeks. I think I'll be renting a LOT of DVDs.
What do you think? Got any suggestions on what I might do to fill the long, empty nights without A2K or HBO?
do you have a laptop? get a wifi card and head for a cybercafe or a starbucks
Yep, I do have a laptop. I've never tried that though. I don't have a clue how that works. Maybe one night I'll give it a shot, but I hate looking like a dumb **** who doesn't know what he's doing.
Do you have to pay them for the access, or do you just go in and you're hooked up? I am on a wireless connection right now, but I don't know how it really works out in the real world.
Which place?
Meanwhile, how about reading? When I'm away from a connection that's what I do (and it's great). Have you read any Kinky Friedman novels? I think you'd maybe enjoy books 2 through 7 or so (in his mystery series).
By the way writing, if you can, would be great, and I advise you to go for it. I can't write in that sort of situation -- I'd be looking to escape until I get more acclimated to the new surroundings.

The fourth floor walk-up. The good one.

Reading is definitely good. Kinky sounds like a good idea, but since CrazyDiamond started that Hemingway thread, I'm kinda hankerin' for one of his. I'm interested in Kinky too, though I've never read anything by him. I'll take it under advisement.
Congrats!!
You basically ARE Kinky (well, Italian instead of Jewish, and I don't think you've ingested as many drugs, but then who has).

Well, yeah, I'm going to give it a shot. I'll probably give it about twenty minutes and then give up in frustration, but I'm going to give it a shot.
ok here's what you try - leave your apt with the laptop on an open
goto
start
settings
network connections (open this up)
make new connection (now there should be a little blue line) at the bottom of the block of text that says scan for a connection or something like that - I do this when driving around and in my neighborhood ask the folks if they care if I could use their internet?
then instruct them how to secure it if they want
I have ingested my share of drugs, though not much of the real heavy trip-your-face off variety. Only mild relaxing stuff. Hey, maybe I'll go get some pot. Hmmm....good idea, Soz!
<smacks forehead>
NOT.... WHAT.... I.... MEANT!!
Kinky's drug of choice was um Bolivian Marching Powder? Help me out fellow Kinkyphiles (haven't read one in too long...)
<pre-emptively smacks forehead>
And THAT was just a little factoid, NOT a suggestion for which drug you should track down!!

I have a Mac. I think it's different. Not much different, but different. I know I'll be able to figure it out though. I've done it here. I just don't remember it. I don't remember it being very hard though. I'm more wondering whether you have to tell them you are going to connect, or if you can just walk in, sit down, and hook up.
Thanks Soz, I will try to find a Bolivian Marching Powder-dealer as soon as possible. You're the best!!!
In the poll, it's a dead heat between "Find Jesus" and "Masturbate Constantly".
Hehehe....
well some people keep there router open because they are down loaders and then if they get caught they can say - it was someone else since they have an open router - mine is locked at tight as I can get it.
Huh? You lost me there. A router is the thing that allows you to connect, right? And if you are near someone with an open router, then you can piggyback on their connection, right? Something like that, right?
But in Starbucks, do they have an open, free router?
I think starbucks is not free - piggy back a router I'm sure you can but never have yet

I think Jesus has taken up residence here, I doubt you can find him anywhere else right now.
Masturbate.
Kiddin'....write something, fer bogsake!
