"baby thats the way that it goes, it's a long and lonely road that i chose, i wonder if the pain still shows, heaven only knows." seems i remember it from late 60's early 70's. a wonderful song performed by a husband and wife duo on a tv variety show. has been driving me stark raving for years. Thanks!

I suspect you have some of the lyrics wrong. This is the only hit I could find for the first part, "baby that's the way it goes": http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=130100

Can't find anything for "it's a long and lonely road that i chose".

I see you also asked about this here: http://www.kpig.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=46864

Sorry we can't be more help. There were a few male-female singing groups doing variety shows in the '70s, it's possible that the singers were not married. Coulda been Tony Orlando and Dawn, Donny and Marie.

i could not find these lyrics either. it was nobody mainstream performing it. kind of a hippieish couple. maybe it was on the smothers brothers show. the search goes on.
