CJ, we also do the lead thing. We eat nothing that has wings on New Years Day- no poultry, no pheasants, no birds of any sort - so that luck doesn't fly away.

Exactly dagmar, we don't eat poultry either for the same reason(we'll have venison instead this year). Additionally, we wear something red and eat
noodles.

Having friends from other cultures, makes one adopt all
kind of different customary things for good luck, I guess. Pretty soon,
we'll eat black eyed peas and capybaras. Rolling Eyes

Very interesting - I've never given the symblism of food much thought.

Maybe I'll make macaroni and cheese in hopes of a year of comfort!

how bout barbequed brisket of bullock, basted briskly with brushes bearing a bubbly bernaise.

Then theres always saurkraut, that really sucks. Id rather eat roadkill.

Used to do some serious partying...
That settled down to dinner with friends...
Now I barely make it to midnight, have a little bubbly and of to bed...

A New Years Day tradition here and great fun; pick up all the tabloid "Predictions for the Coming Year" issues you can find as the Holidays draw to a close. Don't read 'em, just pack 'em away when you put up the Christmas decorations. NEXT YEAR, unpack 'em, set aside 'til New Years day, then read 'em. Guaranteed hoot.

We have corned beef and cabbage on New Year's here in Louisiana. They say it's for prosperity here much like Chai Tea's black eyed peas. Me, I just love corned beef and cabbage.

MoAn,
Corned beef and cabbage is for Saint Patrick's day. Black eyed peas and collard greens are the only true New Years food.

Maybe we'll just have to agree to disagree about it. Smile

Okay LionTamerX, I can do that.

But, that's what they do in Louisiana. But, we are the only state in the United States that doesn't have counties. They call them parishes here.

Could be Chai, I am getting confused with all the different
traditions. It's about time, we make up some new ones.....
