All I Got For Christmas Was....

...actually, I got lots of great stuff this year, partly due to the overwhelming amount of sales at most stores and partly due to the fact that my MIL can't stop herself once she starts shopping. Very Happy

One of the best gifts was a gift certificate to a local mall so I could tear it up and buy things I really wanted. I spent half of it already and am debating on whether or not I should buy a few more things or just go all out and buy something crazy that I normally couldn't afford. Like a fabulous cashmere sweater. Or an expensive pair of shoes.

What did you get this year? Was it a stellar christmas or a bust? Or does it just not matter what you "got" because the time spent with family was gift enough?

We don't really exchange gifts among the adults in my or in Mr. B's family. Mr. B and I rarely buy things for each other on holidays either but this year he got me a little pocket digital camera I'd been eyeing. I love it, love it, love it.

Mo made out like a bandit.

The biggest gift was just being left alone for the day to be a little family of our own.

Very Happy That is by far the best gift for you, I know.

(and the camera was probably nice too!!)

I got clothes, some money, couple little things, and gift cards to Best Buy, which I can spend in a split second. It doesn't matter to me what I get though. My mother goes overboard.

Bella, do you have Filene's Basement out there? I got my sister a CK cashmere sweater there for $70. Or look online, maybe Ebay. Spending full retail on one is kind of useless.

Sort of useless, yeah, but the money was a gift so it was free so why not?

I never do stuff like that. I never buy things like that so it would be a special gift to myself.

But I haven't decided yet.

And no, we don't have a Filene's Basement here, but it sounds like I might like it.

Well I had an interesting think happen, most of you might know that the Mrs Husker runs a foodbank and we're heavily involved in that stuff this time of year. So anyway there was a special family that we were helping outside the general way people get help at the foodbank and they were sort of like a Christmas family. So I called my buddy at asked if he wanted to help me make a delivery (be a Santa's helper and he said yes).

We he showed up at the foodbank he said where's they toys and stuff for the kids? (while we were loading the food and things) I explained in this bag, and we said wow thank not a whole lot husker! I explained it's the best we could do on short notice and resources we had. Then he said you know that scrooge thing you've had going on? And I said yep.
We'll let's go get rid of it. So he pulled out a couple checks and said let's head over to the bank and I cash these and this will fund some fun shopping for the kids.

Well I have to tell you guys, since my leg situation I really don't get out much for shopping time and especially since the other work I did to get the other food and things together I was pooped. But man I had a blast buying toys and other gifts.

When we went to deliver the stuff it was kind of a special time, my buddy takes the dad aside as says - hey if you want you can hide some of these toys to be from Santa!

It's like a Marshalls or TJ Maxx. The one I go to is in a higher income neighborhood and sells a ton of designer stuff: Kenneth Cole, DKNY, Burberry, Diesel, Seven, Lucky. It's a hidden jewl. I think I've bought all my clothes there for the past 3 years.

You're right on the free part. I may go splurge on a home theatre receiver at Best Buy now that I have free money there. Spend what I was going to spend myself on this thing, plus the gift cards, so I can get a better one.

Slappy, I just figure, that's what people expect you to do with certificates and what not, because with cash you can use it to pay bills and stuff but with a gift card...you have to buy something fun!!

most retail stores in the continental US will not honor a gift certificate if its been torn up...

Good job, husker. We bought basic household necessity stuff for a family whose house burned down two weeks before Christmas. Our best friends replaced all the burnt Christmas gifts for their three kids.

That was a WHOLE lot more fun than visiting our relatives!

Maybe next year we should forget about the in-laws and help TWO families instead. Yeah.
