Is anyone else in this forum getting a lot of spam in their mail? Does it have anything to do with being a member of able2know?

Most internet users get spam so I'm pretty sure most a2kers do.

Someone called me a "Bad Gramma" this morning. Following this, I received more spam telling me about instant penis enlargement.
I wish the grandma and penis people would join ranks and get their facts sorted out.

I get spam only on the E Mail address that I use for subscriptions. On the others, I get practically no spam, and none on my Outlook Express E Mail address. On the address that I have A2K, I get practically no spam, because that is all the address is used for.

Well, I have noticed I get spam after I post here. I'm not a big Internet surfer either. I hadn't been posting for about a week and there was no spam. Yesterday I posted and that same day there were 3 new ads in my box of unsolicited material. I notice there are ads in this forum, just wondering if there is a connection.

I seldom get spam, and I use this email address for most net-surfing things!

Some people are just lucky, I guess

This has to be a coincidence, the ways a website can make you get spam are:

A) They sell your email address to others who eventually sell them to spammers. A2K does not divulge emails to anyone. This would not be related to posting, the spam would come in an increasing flow starting at the moment your email address is sold.

B) The website displays your email. Emails displayed on public pages are accesible to spam bots. Spam bots are programs that harvest email addresses from web pages. A2K has disabled the ability to make your email visible in your profile and your posts. The only way you can publish your email on A2K is to post it in the body of a message.

In both scenarios posting to A2K will not cause fluctuations in spam.

I can assert that being an A2K member (or even an abuzz member) has no connection with receiving unsolicited mails.

Unless you display your email address on Abuzz in your profile. Since Abuzz profiles are public they are accessible to email harvesters.

I've been getting a lot of those penis enlargement spams lately myself and I don't even have one! Go figure, lol. I know they're not coming from A2K either. I always got a lot of junk mail.

satt, can you explain? I ask because this forum has advertisments , and one of the ads was Viagra like in nature. Abuzz did not advertise. and there have been times where I've questioned the exponential growth of able2know.

Abuzz DID advertise. Not after things went kerflooey, but before that.

What do you question about the exponential growth of A2K, btw?

The reply is simple enough. I have a separate mail account for A2K (and abuzz). I have no unsolicited mails in the mail box.

I never got spam when I was on Abuzz either. Exponential growth, since I joined the membership has grown by about 5 times. I just wonder where all these people are coming from and how a forum like this grows so quickly.

What basis of comparison are you using to assert that this site is growing quickly? What would growth have to do with SPAM (Spam is not a selling point BTW)?

And unless the spam advertises A2K what "exponential growth" would result?

Craven your statistics are wasted on me. i'm asserting that the exponential growth of this forum because it is advertised every time I log on-

No, the growth has nothing to do with the spam. Are you getting in a snit over this? I can't tell.
