Thieves Try Selling Stolen Art Back To Gallery
(AP) MENLO PARK Three alleged art thieves are facing charges after police say they tried to sell stolen paintings back to the same art gallery they were taken from.
Paintings worth nearly 100-thousand dollars disappeared after a vehicle was stolen last month from the owners of the Sense Fine Art Gallery in Menlo Park.
When the gallery owners took separate calls inquiring about an appraisal, the description of the art sounded like one of the missing paintings.
They called the sheriff's department, which set up surveillance.
Authorities arrested a South San Francisco woman and two San Francisco men when they showed up with two of the paintings at the gallery Sunday.
As for the rest of the art, investigators say they're still missing and have probably have already been sold.
