I'm an addict. I'm spending more time on Craigslist than I am on A2K. I've always hated shopping and now I'm a junkie.
I'm wearing jeans I bought seven years ago but I'm like all "gotta see a dude about a coffee table maaaan".
I'm worried about what is going to happen once I get my house furnished.
I've even turned two of my neighbors onto Craigslist.
I'm trying to convince one of my neighbors (see the parking horror stories thread) to let me list some of his junk.
I completely blame Sozobe. She was my pusher. What a bitch.
What's your poison? Brick and mortor? e-Bay? Amazon?
Fill me in on your best deals.
*For the uninitiated - it is craigslist.ORG. Don't blame me if you type in .COM because I have warned you.
my poison
motar, chapters (souless corporate book store), hmv (souless corporate music store), eb games (fairly good corporate game store)
plus assorted used book and cd stores
I bought a motorcycle from a CL ad, then sold the same bike through CL a year later. I've found all but one of my roomates through the site, and bought concert tickets as well. Not addicted, but it is an awesome site.
For books I'm kind of a brick and mortor girl too but that is only because of Powells and, for emergencies, the Barnes and Noble a few blocks away.
I've never sold anything through CL but I recently started (this weekend) advertising my photo studio through there so we'll see what happens with that.
I confess to looking around my house to see if there is anything I want to get rid of but I'm pretty choosy about the stuff I buy and I hardly ever buy anything so most of it stays.
I got hooked because not only are the prices really great but I don't have to go anywhere and look at everything. If I see something I like, I send an email and it is not e-Bay boggeling.
Craigslist, oldnavy, amazon, and bookpool. Those four recieve most of my discretionary income.
It's a place where you can find the best prices on technical books. They might sell other books too, but it's the place where I indulge myself in the name of "my career". A guilty pleasure.
Powells has a technical book store. Have you ever checked them out? (They also have a store for cook books and a store for travelers. I imagine they are all offered through Powells.com.)
I haven't checked them out but I will now. I am such an addict.
craigslist and half dot com have their evil hands in my pocket and in my home right about now..
overstock.com has some good deals...and some bad ones. You just have to look.
Got a brand new DVD that sells for $20 in the store for $15 the other day.
Amazawn (for those who are listening with a Bahstin accent)
I can't imagine planning another vacation without going back to craigslist. What I found there totally made the New York trip.
That's interesting, eBeth. What kind of things were you looking for and what did you find?
I've never thought about it as a travel tool.
Very cool! I would have never thought of such a thing. Thanks!
Maybe next time we head to the beach I'll go the craigslit route.
I was thinking of going to Myrtle Beach sometime soon. I found listings where condos were less for a month, than I could find a hotel for a week.
<slinks in, pulls fur collar up and large colorful hat down, whispers to boomer, "Asian antique coffeetable with good lines posted yesterday...">
The travel thing is exactly why I am so addicted to craigslist. I started out just looking for jobs (and I'd use that to pass the buck to Slappy on the pusher bit but last time I did that he demanded a cut of my earnings) then branched out, and out, and what's freaky-amazing about craigslist is how much there IS and how far you can branch to great personal benefit.
If Chicago looks like it will be on my agenda, I'll be back poking around at craigslist for a place to stay.
