Baby, It's Cold Outside!!

Reply Mon 12 Dec, 2005 05:58 pm
This evening, after work, as I was trudging along in the cold, I stopped dead in my tracks. There was such an exquisite sunset -- it was so beautiful, I stopped to look, admire and drink it in.

For one brief moment there, I actually forgot that I was FREEZING MY BUTT OFF!

They say it's going to be a bad winter. It's already started.

What can we do to help us get through this chilling, abrasive, obnoxious, wind-burning, annoying winter time?

What can we do to warm us, nurture us, and cheer us?

My Christmas tree helps. Just coming home and looking at it sorta makes me feel better.

Any other thoughts?

Here's the answer:

We'll be singing
When we're winning
We'll be singing

I get knocked down but I get up again
You're never going to keep me down
I get knocked down but I get up again
You're never going to keep me down
I get knocked down but I get up again
You're never going to keep me down

Pissing the night away
Pissing the night away

He drinks a whisky drink
He drinks a vodka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times:

"Oh Danny Boy, Danny Boy, Danny Boy..."

I get knocked down but I get up again
You're never going to keep me down
I get knocked down but I get up again
You're never going to keep me down
I get knocked down but I get up again
You're never going to keep me down

Pissing the night away
Pissing the night away

He drinks a whisky drink
He drinks a vodka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times:

"Don't cry for me, next door neighbour..."

I get knocked down but I get up again
You're never going to keep me down
I get knocked down but I get up again
You're never going to keep me down
I get knocked down but I get up again
You're never going to keep me down

We'll be singing
When we're winning
We'll be singing

here's one of my favourite winter tunes, the first time i heard it i was walking home from a friends house late at night, feeling no pain and the city was being blanketed by huge flakes of snow

http://www.igophoto.net/dave/images/_snowfall.jpg

2000 Miles
The Pretenders

He's gone 2000 miles
It's very far
The snow is falling down
Gets colder day by day
I miss you

The children will sing
He'll be back at christmastime

In these frozen and silent nights
Sometimes in a dream you appear
Outside under the purple sky
Diamonds in the snow sparkle
Our hearts were singing
It felt like christmastime

2000 miles
Is very far through the snow
I'll think of you
Wherever you go

He's gone 2000 miles
It's very far
The snow is falling down
Gets colder day by day
I miss you

I can hear people singing
It must be christmastime
I hear people singing
It must be christmastime

I love all the drinking songs here! Yep, it does seem like a drinking time of year, doesn't it?

That really appeals to the Irish in me, Stevepax!

I come from a long line of WASPS. Very waspy. German and British. Except, I'm catholic! That's because of my great-great grandmother -- America O'Brien was her name. She came into the family and basically forced everyone to become Catholic!

Yaaaay! We're Irish and we're Catholic! We have the perfect excuse to drink Irish Coffee! YAAAAYYYY!!!!

dj -- I love that picture. It's just how I feel about winter. Cold and dark. But it's so beautiful. That's what winter is....it's a cold, dark, beautiful bitch!

What other ideas do you have everybody?

Soup! Lots of Soup!

Candlelight. I like seeing candles in the windows of people's homes (even though it's just the electric ones).

Snuggling by the fire!

Now the first of December was covered with snow
and so was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston.
Though the Berkshires seemed dreamlike on account of that frosting,
with ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go.
There's a song that they sing when they take to the highway,
a song that they sing when they take to the sea,
a song that they sing of their home in the sky, maybe you can believe it if it helps you to sleep,
but singing works just fine for me.

He was standin' by the highway
With a sign that just said "mother"
When he heard a driver comin?
'bout a half a mile away
Then he held the sign up higher
Where no decent soul could miss it
It was ten degrees or colder
Down by bolder dam that day
He was raised up in milwaukee
Though he never was that famous
He was just a road musician
To the taverns he would go
Singin' songs about the ramblin'
The lovin' girls and gamblin'
How the world fell on his shoulders
Back in boulder I don?t know

It was out in arizona
That he heard the lady listenin'
To each word that he was sayin'
To each line that he would write
So he sat down by her table and
They talked about the weather
Ninety-eight point six and risin'
Down by boulder dam that day

And she told him she would take him
For a ride in the mornin' sun
Back in boulder he had told her
"i don't know when I had a better friend"

Now he's traded off his martin
But his troubles are not over
For his feet are almost frozen
And the sun is sinkin' low
Won?t you listen to me brother
If you ever loved your mother
Please pull off on the shoulder
If you're goin' milwaukee way
It's ten degrees and getting colder
Down by boulder dam today

Sometimes in Winter
I gaze into the streets
And walk through snow and city sleet
Behind your room

Sometimes in Winter
Forgotten memories
Remember you behind the trees
With leaves that cried

By the window once I waited for you
Laughing slightly you would run
Trees alone would shield us in the meadow
Makin' love in the evening sun

Now you're gone girl
And the lamp posts call your name
I can hear, them
In the spring of frozen rain
Now you're gone girl
And the time's slowed down till dawn
It's a cold room and the walls ask
Where you've gone

Sometimes In Winter
I love you when the good times
Seem like mem'ries int he spring
That never came

Sometimes In Winter
I wish the empty streets
Would fill with laughter from the tears
That ease my pain
