"The tide is high but I'm holding on...
I'm going to be your number one...your number one..."
Who was the group who made this recording?
Blondie...yeah, they had that mean bass player...I believe his name was Dagwood Bumstead...he kicked ASS!
Maybe Nigel Harrison? Just sounds like Dagwood when you say it fast.
A pop version of the song was released in the UK a couple of years ago by British girl-band Atomic Kitten.
However, the track was originally written and recorded by Jamaican reggae artists John Holt & The Paragons sometime around 1967. His version is very cool, as is his cover of "The Girl From Ipanema".

Damn straight! I have a version with U-Roy toasting over it - bitching!
Some of the best reggae and ska came out long, long before it was discovered by the big record companies.
I only have one Holt album (1,000 Volts Of Holt, Best Of), but I really like it. Other gems on there are his versions of Mr Bojangles, Killing Me Softly (With His Song). My absolute favorite is "Ali Baba" - it just makes me laugh!
Good stuff...Debbie Harry was sharp when she covered that song. The Holt version is very nice.
