Normally, there are drop locations everywhere! But for some reason, this year, I can't seem to find any. And Toys for Tots is so huge, I'd like to donate to a smaller organization.
Are there any organizations other than Toys for Tots that you'd recommend?
my home
it is on heather... drive..
come on down
Lots of malls have angel trees, but I've been put off by the number of insanely expensive gifts that are requested.
Altons Tires here has a drop off at all the stores for Toys for Tots
Foodbanks like donations of Food at this time of year.
wouldnt they take ANY donation? and not just a toy that was requested?
Like the Foodbank we do, we take toys and even adult items because me know sometimes the gift giving this can be rough, so we have a gift area for kids to pickout something for their parents and they a little wrapping table staffed by other teens.

Not even one of those at the mall by me.
Angel trees have cards attached; you get to give a specific toy to a specific kid.

Maybe I will look into that.
Thanks Husker!
Our newspaper here runs articles this time of year about needy families. They get referrals from several social service agencies. The people who are profiled are often ill and cannot work. Every day the newspaper has a story about another deserving family. Tears my heart out. Today it was a grandmother with terminal cancer raising three small children (one with severe disabilities) after her daughter (their mother) was killed in a car accident. There are so many deserving people, Bella. If your newspaper doesn't do something like this, check with a couple of local agencies that deal with families and children.
I actually found an organization I think I might donate to.
In the midst of all this "don't take away my holiday" crap, I thought I'd step outside my box a bit.
This years organization is a food bank called Yad Ezra. Provides kosher food to needy families.

* The Coordinator will contact you and provide the requested information
Bella that is really cool - I looked at the website
I read in the paper today about a cool charity that donates things to wounded soldiers. I'm thinking of sending a box. Let me see if I can find it......
It's called "The Fisher House"
http://www.fisherhouse.org/
They're kind of like the Ronald McDonald Houses -- another great charity.
Wow Bella, that sounds like a really cool idea. I would never think of folks needing kosher food!
Homeless/women's shelters are my 'thing' I guess. They are always grateful for anything that can be given (including time) and are in-the-know of those who could really use a hand.
Donating blood is good. It's not a charity, but people bleed a lot at Holiday Time!
