Hi,
I was wondering if any of you could point me to a program that can generate synthetic world maps? I'm currently on a budget so free would be nice, but if not, something that's shareware would be okay.
Specifically, I want something that can create a reasonable map that is vaguely plausible with continents created through continental drift and deserts exactly where they should be in relation to mountain regions that may disrupt rainfall.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
you might try Terragen which is free for personal use. It all depends on the detail you want on your maps.

Just something that can put deserts and forests in the right place, according to their relation to mountain ranges.
Terragen isn't really what I want, as I need to create whole world maps. Thanks for the info, though.
