An old montage from 1993

This is a montage that I finished in December 1993. It's made up of old magazine photos. I ended up mounting it in a frame with a glass front on it. Since I didn't want to dismantle it to photograph it, I had to do the best I can. I hope at least I've shown a good representation of the work.

I'm afraid, Edgar, this is pre-internet for me. Didn't start playing there until 1999.

Thanks! Unfortunately, some of the finer details didn't come across like I would have liked. I would have to take close-ups of the various parts of the picture of them to give them justice.

There's several layers to the work to give it perspective. Again, that doesn't really come across properly either. Sad

Reyn, I love it. Who's that man on trombone? What I really like about it, is the cultural plurality.

Hello, Letty, and thanks! I have no idea who that chap is.

In actual fact, the content of the work has much to do with what was available (National Geographics). I was more trying to achieve a certain "look" than trying to send any particular message or saying anything.

If you look at the layers, there is much to be seen.

My favourite image is the area where the Russian woman holds up a photo of her "missing son" through a window, who in turn is held in place by a black hand.

I never grow tired of looking at it. It's hanging on the wall in our computer room.

I realize that, honey. but it's the overall thing that I like. Hey, great, Reyn. I need to look at each individual picture now. I seem to do things in backward motion sometimes.

I've been wanting to post it for a long time (since my other montages), but have not been able to until I got a better camera.

Thanks, husk!

These montages are a surprising amount of work. I worked on the one above for weeks until I had the look that I wanted. The tricky part about working with paper is getting it stuck down without moving it out of it's original intended position. Shocked

Much easier working with digital images. Eventually, I intend to make something out of images that I took myself, and not from others.

I'd like a higher resolution one to peek at for the details

Okay, the next time I've got the camera out I'll change the camera setting from 640 x 480 to 1600 x 1200. I don't usually post here in that format because it stetches the heck out of the thread.

Unfortunately, due to size restrictions at my photo host, I can't post a bigger picture. Sad

If you don't mind, I'd rather not. I already have 2 hosts and not looking for any other.

If you're still keen, send me an email, and I'll send it to you that way.

I would say so. It looks similar to this one:

Interesting how the images interact with the
adjacent ones. I like the "keepsake" photo
in the front.

Your reproduction looks good to me, Reyn!

Yes, I made a deliberate effort to do that, so that most everything connects.

It drove me nearly nuts to get it just right. And, of course, at that time I was working in paper. Working in digital is so much easier and flexible.
