The "Clapper" is the metal thingummybob inside a bell, or the little metal arm that strikes the bell on an alarm clock. So it has to work very hard to achieve the task.

I had a girlfriend once that went like the clappers, so the saying has more than one meaning, if you get my drift.

Why not try keeping the fork in the left hand, and use it to shovel the food into the mouth.

It works for us.....
