I was at the grocery store the other day and on a whim I picked up a package of Kanimi Deluxe, a "blend of Alaskan pollock with real crab added."
What the hell do I do with this stuff? It says it's fully cooked and ready to eat. Should I just stick them and the microwave and eat the things like popcorn?
Or what? This is my first venture into the world of the imitation king crab flake and I am a bit apprehensive.
Please walk me through the process.
Imitation king crab....
Gus: Did the seafood come with a breading crust already on it?
If so,I wouldn't microwave it. Breading can toughen in a microwave. If it came breaded, put it in a baking pan for up to 1 hour at between 200 and 250 degrees, depending on how hot your oven gets and how quickly.
P.S.: cover the baking pan w/a sheet of aluminum foil, to keep the seafood from getting too brown too quickly.
Hell, I would just cut them in smaller pieces, and put them in a nice salad, with your favorite salad dressing.
I'm not fond of that idea, Phoenix. Is that what most people do?
What shape is the stuff in the package? faux crab legs/flakes...?
I'm allergic to crustaceans so I verra occasionally buy the faux crab <to get the hit of crab flavour that it provides>, and eat it cold with some kind of sauce or dip. I've also used it in seafood/fish soup - mmmm sorta faux bouillabaise.
You have to remember that I am not a person.
Chicken sandwich: half left over from Sunday.
Is it still good? Quick reply needed...NOW.

Little squares, some bordering on rectangular.
Eat the sandwich, Slappy. Hell, I've eaten stuff I've found in my couch cushions.
Didn't hurt me none.
Faux crab for a faux person.
Makes sense.

Ya lookin' for a warm/hot or cool/cold menu option, Gus?

Eat the sandwich now, Slappy. In case it's a bit stinky, pour some hot sauce on.
Something hot and exotic.
Warm the seafood on low for about 2 minutes,w./a little water if possible, in the microwave, then serve w/sauce/salad dressing, etc.
<I hate when you just lay out those straight lines>
I'd recommend making a Thai Crab soup for hot and exotic.
one google hit for a recipe - there are lots out there

(double the faux crab if you don't have shrimp/faux shrimp)
That's all there is to it, lindatw? Microwave and sauce.
Damn! I'm gonna be a chef.
Yes, the chicken sandwich is still good.
Just eat the squares that border the rectangles.
Both of you wait a day or two and let us know how it worked out.
Beth suggested I try this receipe....
# 1 teaspoon peanut oil
# 5 cloves garlic, minced
# 3 shallots, minced
# 3 cups fish or chicken stock
# 2 Tablespoons fish sauce (if Nam Pla is not available, use any oriental fish sauce)
# 1/4 pound crabmeat, shells removed
# 1/4 pound shrimp, shells removed
# 1 15-oz. tin of creamed corn
# 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns, cracked
# 1 egg, beaten
# 2 Tablespoons cilantro, chopped
I think I have the egg.
I woulda bet money that you'd have creamed corn.
They are good in sushi. You could toss them into miso soup (or other soup). A sandwich might work.... a BLC?
