Apologies to Hank Snow, the Singing Ranger.
I have searched everywhere to find a short story titled:
"How Beautiful are thy Feet Wearing Shoes." The title is an allusion to The Songs of Solomon in the Bible and I think that's why it made be difficult to locate on the web. (even Phoenix couldn't find it)
A brief gist of the plot: A young backwoods girl is kidnapped by an escaped inmate from an asylum. The man does not harm the girl, but rather quotes beautiful poetry to her including the song from Solomon.
Although she is rescued, her life is changed forever by this brief encounter with beauty, making it impossible for her to return to life in the dull mountain community.
I do hope that someone can help me locate this short story.
