Wow, that takes me down Memory Lane! My sister and I both had Meccano sets. The old kind that were make of substantial metal.

Lots of fun. They sure had great toys in the old days.

You can still buy metal "Original Slinkies." I know, my son has one. And yes, we still play with it on the stairs. The cats are freaked, but the dog thinks it's cool.

1954, Dys? That's the year I was born.

We had Lincoln logs, and an earlier plastic construction set which was much superior to Leggos in appearance. The interlocking "bricks" came in white, red, tan and clear, and there were green slats for use as door and window frames, and roofing panels. I had a wonderful little wooden train set, as well, which many children in the family used for years after i had lost interest. My father's family were quite wealthy, so that he and my aunt--his sister--and his parents sent us very lavish gifts at birthdays and christmas.

You know what was great about Meccano, you could get sets that had a motor and power various things. It really was a toy that you could just keeping adding on and on.

My wife was saying that her and brother had a suitcase full of the stuff. You can only imagine what that would weigh in as.
