A touch of Iron Maiden

Out of the silent planet, out of the silent planet we are
Out of the silent planet, out of the silent planet we are
Out of the silent planet, out of the silent planet we are
Out of the silent planet, out of the silent planet we are

Withered hands, withered bodies begging for salvation
Deserted by the hand of gods of their own creation
Nations cry underneath decaying skies above
You are guilty, the punishment is death for all who live
The punishment is death for all who live

Out of the silent planet, dreams of desolation
Out of the silent planet, Come the demons of creation
Out of the silent planet, dreams of desolation
Out of the silent planet, Come the demons of creation

The killing fields, the grinding wheels crushed by equilibrium
Separate lives no more disguise, no more second chances
Haggard wisdom spitting out the bitter taste of hate
I accuse you before you know the crime it's all too late
Before you know the crime it's all too late

Out of the silent planet, dreams of desolation
Out of the silent planet, Come the demons of creation
Out of the silent planet, dreams of desolation
Out of the silent planet, Come the demons of creation

Out of the silent planet, out of the silent planet we are
Out of the silent planet, out of the silent planet we are

Who have we got now ???? and what's to be seen

I know you've deceived me, now here's a surprise
I know that you have 'cause there's magic in my eyes

I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

If you think that I don't know about the little tricks you've played
And never see you when deliberately you put things in my way

Well, here's a poke at you
You're gonna choke on it too
You're gonna lose that smile
Beacuse all the while

I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

You took advantage of my trust in you when I was so far away
I saw you holding lots of other guys and now you've got the nerve to say

That you still want me
Well, that's as may be
But you gotta stand trial
Because all the while

I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

I know you've deceived me, now here's a surprise
I know that you have 'cause there's magic in my eyes

I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

The Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal are mine to see on clear days
You thought that I would need a crystal ball to see right through the haze

Well, here's a poke at you
You're gonna choke on it too
You're gonna lose that smile
Beacuse all the while

I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
and miles and miles and miles and miles

Hi Boomerang. It's nice to see you again. This is fun.

And here's a Broadway tune from "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" that just came to mind: (2nd verse)

To show you what you're worth
There's no more I can do
There's nothing on this Earth
Good enough for you.
I'll have to do my shopping out there in the blue.

I'll buy you a star
Not just a star
But the best one in the sky
You'll have a cloud to sleep on
A cloud as light as an angel's sigh.

A fine silver chain
Made from the rain
Of a summer afternoon
I'll buy you a star, my darling
But I won't rest until I buy the moon.

Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a mule

A mule is an animal with long funny ears
Kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny but his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
And by the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a pig

A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He has no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig

Or would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather be a fish

A fish won't do anything, but swim in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
To fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slippery, he still gets caught
But then if that sort of life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish
A new kind of jumped-up slippery fish

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Every day you meet quite a few
So you see it's all up to you
You can be better than you are
You could be swingin' on a star

Hay K. Well yes, Long before you were born, I got into guys like Little Richard, Gene Vincent and so on then we had the revolution here on our little island with Beatles and The Stones. Then we had Cream in the mid 60s followed by my all time favorite band Led Zeppelin. Then I began to discover lots of other Metal Bands as they came along. The UK bands got a lot airplay and TV shows. At the moment I've got Black Sabbeth on. I love all forms of rock and roll, such as Jefferson Airplane, CSYN, and others. But they all got their influence from America and Black musicians.
So I've gone way back to the original blues these last few months. I wanted to compare Eric Clapton's version of Crossroads with the original by Robert Johnson. So I've found the true Blues, at long last
The earliest recording I've got (on CD) is Bessie Smith singing St. Louis Blues, I have Robert Johnson from the 30s then all kinds of people on thru BB King, Muddy Waters and my favorite Blues Man, John Lee Hooker.
But I still dig AC/DC >>>>> ZZ Top and lots in between.

It seems to me that people who love music love all kinds of mucic and that people who are stuck in certain generas love the memory of their life when that music was popular. (Of course, people who love classical music are the exception - unless they are VERY old.)

One of the things I love about these threads is that they go from Black Sabbath to Jimminy Cricket and it all works and it all makes me want to listen.

Mascm - "Swing on a star" hold a special place in my heart as just asking one of the most truly absurd questions of all times. Moonbeams or mules? Hmmmmm....

I'm now remembering one of the best music threads I've seen - where the theme was questions in songs. Seeing as there are so many fresh faces here it may be time to ressurect that theme and see what happens.

Me too, boomerang. That's why I posted the whole song. I just love how nonsensical the lyrics are. I learned it when I was about 10 or so.

Ok Mac and Boomerang. Now you're driving me crazy trying to remember the lyrics to the title song of the movie that Swinging on a Star is from - Going My Way:

This road leads to Rainbowville
Going My Way
Up Ahead is ?????_______Hill
Going My Way
Just pack a basket full of wishes???
And off you start
With Sunday morning in your heart.
Round the bend you'll find a ????

The smiles you gather will look well on you
Oh I hope you're going my way too.

(Help, please. )

This road leads to Rainbowville, going my way?
Up ahead is Bluebird Hill, going my way?
Just pack a basket full of wishes and off you start
With Sunday morning in your heart.
Round the bend you'll see a sign "Dreamer's Highway."
Happiness is down the line, going my way?
The smiles you gather will look well on you,
Oh I hope you're going my way too.

Well, I typed in Going My Way and didn't get them. Laughing Thank you. Swinging on a Star won the Oscar for best song, but I guess you already knew that.
And in keeping with this thread's theme:

The second star to the right
Shines in the night for you
To tell you that the dreams you plan
Really can come true.
The second star to the right
Shines with a light that's rare
And if its Never Land you need
It's light will lead you there.
Twinkle, twinkle little star
So I'll know where you are
Gleaming in the skies above
Lead me to the one who loves me
And when you bring him my way
Each time we say "Goodnight"
We'll thank the little star that shines
The second from the right.
