I don't know, I never really got it when people find this sort of stuff funny....like the john bobbet situation where the wife cut his penis off.

Just turn the story around for a second....

This guy was so angry at his wife/girlfriend that he went over an cut off one of her breasts.

Then, he drove off with it in his car, and through the breast out the window.

or,

he got really mad and superglued the lips of her vulva together.

HAHAHAHAHA. really funny, huh?

makes circumcision seem a downright tea party.

Granted we are having fun at this guy's expense, but she didn't use a knife.

I'm betting the guy was a dickhead and was fooling around before he broke up with his girlfriend.

Otherwise, I can't see her getting this mad.

Sure, it still doesn't excuse this sort of thing, but understandable.

Hey, people do crazy stuff when they're mad.

So, if a woman was a dickhead and was fooling around before she broke up with her boyfriend, it would be understandable if he superglued her vulva together?

Men already do terrible things to women for no reason.

Still trying to see where this makes it understandable.

and why it's funny when it happens to a man, but it isn't funny when it happens to a woman.

doing terrible things to one group of people does not make it right, or understandable for retaliation.

when a woman gets mutilated or humiliated in a sexual way, it's a world-wide crisis, deserving of books being written on the matter, and support groups, and laws being passed.

when a man gets mutilated or humiliated in a sexual way, it's a joke.

it's just not right, either way.....

People laugh at what men do to women too. They make it into ugly porn movies. And worse, many woman by their attitude encourage it.

What is the old saying:

You can beat a dog just so much, then he will turn on you.

What is worse still is the example both men and women are giving the young people of today.

Which is why, by my attitude, I am not encouraging it.

I'm not clear where you are disagreeing with me....It seems we are both very much in agreement that people should not laugh at mutilation or humiliation of either sex. We both agree pornography is ugly. We both agree that women should not encourage this by their attitude.
We both agree that a dog should not be beaten at all.
We both agree that men and women both sould give young people a proper example of how sex should be treated.
From all of this, I would surmise that you wouldn't find the act of a woman gluing a man's genitals to his body would be funny, since it's humiliating and/or mutilating. Just as you would not find it funny if a man glued a womens genitals together.

If you don't find either funny, then I'm thinking you find both wrong. Someone must be first in stopping the dog beatings, and as long as things like this are taken as a joke, some poor dog keeps getting kicked. Do you want to stop kicking the dog, or wait for someone else to stop?

From where I'm standing angel, it looks like we are on the same side of the fence.

Where is the disagreement?

It's funny because we don't know this guy, he is not our friend, and if it mattered we'd be sympathetic. But it does not, and we are passing time at work or school by joking around.

John Wayne Bobbit, if you remember, had been abusing his wife. That makes it a bit easier to laugh at what happened to him. So does the fact that things turned out okay for him. In fact, he went on to star in a porno. Is your heart really bleeding for Mr. Bobbit? Doesn't sound like the greatest of people.

And dick-gluing, to my knowledge, is not as prevalent as animal abuse, and by laughing about it, us fellas aren't at greater risk of waking up and peeing in our own faces. I don't think your analogy works so well.

Also, mabye I'm misinformed, which could very well be the case...but I just don't think women PHYSICALLY abuse men that often. I'm sure it happens, and the double standard you are addressing is compelling, but I think we laugh because we don't take it seriously as a commonplace problem.

It is far more prevalent that men abuse other men in this fashion - glueing butt-cheeks together is a very popular hazing ritual among young males. They also think it is hilarious to shove each other out in public, naked, or with ridiculous genitalia shavings, rude words marking their bodies. Why guys don't have to be in a fraternity to do this stuff! I know a group of young blokes who do this stuff each and every weekend to each other and think it is hilarious. Then, when a girlfriend of one of them thought it would be funny to shave off her boyfriends eyebrow while he was in a drunken stupor, this was suddenly objected to by the guy and all his friends (like they have not been doing worse stuff to themselves!). She was not even mad at him. She was following the example of the guys behavior and goofing around.

Purely as a goof it is disrespectful and unacceptable. However if the guy was guilty of a more serious thing like rape or some savage criminal act, I don't think the glueing of the penis to the belly would suffice.

Ah chai, it's funny in theory.

Like when you laugh you ass off at your friend who did a triple flip off their bikes to land on their back in the bushes. We don't laugh at first until we know they are ok and then it's funny as hell.

This is really interesting, you know, how a thread can take a turn...this is really making me wonder why....

At first, I was, well, not surprised by Gars reaction that it's just a joke, passing the time....well, sort of, I mean, I love joking around, but I also get to thinking.

1. I think maybe men, if they find this sort of thing funny, partly do so because to them, it's not something they've had to fight against their whole lives.
Women have had to fight tooth and nail to get equal treatment and not live in fear of being raped, murdered by strangers or even the person that is supposed to care about us more than anyone in the world. Every time a woman is treated like an airhead, put down simply because we are female, get raped, get beaten, get paid less than a man for doing the same work, etc. it's like a little death.
Everytime we are treated in a just way, it's a victory tempered with watchfullness of the next step.
Suffragettes would be aghast at how lightly we women take our right to vote, they put their lives on the line for it.
Women (and most men) do not laugh at women being mistreated because it's taken seriously as a battle for dignity. Perhaps in several generations we will be aghast at how a future generation of women can laugh at a sexual humiliation of women. I suppose in a way that would be a good thing, since it will show we can now afford to laugh.
Men can afford to laugh at this because they know it's an occurance that happens a minority of the time....I mean, it's not like they're women who have this shitty stuff happen to them every day....

2. For women, I think many laugh at these types of things because in the back of our minds we're thinking "Serves them right" or "well, it happens to us all the time, so it's no biggie"

Not to sound like a pollyanna, but two wrongs do not make a right.

In order for people to be treated equally, ALL sexual humiliation, to both men and women would have to stop...since that isn't going to happen anytime soon....At least we can stop laughing at it.

Bottom line is, it's just not a all funny.

So you don't laugh when someone falls down (and doesn't get hurt of course)? If this had been a story about a woman having her butt cheeks super glued together I'd have laughed too. It's awful but it's funny.

No - I definately would NOT have laughed if this happened to a women. I honestly would have thought is was absolutely dreadful for her.

I think what happened to this man was absolutely dreadful.

In the event someone does something harmful to another person, even if I think, well, they should have the same thing done to them....I still would not think it was funny, I would think it a form of justice.

Abuse, and murder against women are on the rise, and I can't laugh at a guy that gets his penis, and ass glued? Give me a break.

All men that abuse women should have their dick CUT OFF!

Chai, we agree often but not this time. I laugh at myself all the time. I fell down a flight of steps once in a very crowded store and I, along with my boyfriend at the time, laughed out asses off, even though I was bruised all the way up and down my back. Stupid, sometimes painful, stuff is funny. I didn't say it was right and I do think it's awful and shouldn't have happened. But it did and I think it's funny.

You know, I honestly think I'm having my leg pulled here.

Let's see, women get abused and murdered, so that equals laughing at someone who, as far as we know, did not murder or abuse anyone.
Actually, for all we know, he didn't even cheat on his girlfriend. If this woman is sick enough to do such a thing, how do we know she was lying as to the reason.

However, that's all beside the point....The point that I've been making here is that a person having his genitals glued together just.....simply.....isn't....funny.

As to men having their dicks cut off if they abuse women, as I said above, if something like that happens, that is a form of justice, right or wrong, not a joke. angel, you're confusing retribution with humor.

either speak of giving the goose the same as the gander, but not laughing of it. Or, think about why you would think humiliating another person, who from what I can see from the story did not deserve such a severe punishment.

Acutally, my 2nd reaction to the story was to think...This woman must be some type of lunatic. If you can do this to someone you supposedly care about, you have a couple of screws loose.

And again, as I've said - two wrongs do not make a right.

You know what? I've never laughed at a man's penis, period. Really and truly.

What does that have to do with this guy getting his penis glued to his belly? Murder? Glued genitalia? Not the same thing.

It's funny in theory. In the way that a lot of things are funny. Like the examples I gave you. It isn't acutally funny like "hey let's pull that gag at his 40th birthday!" but funny in that "oh my god, that is so bizarre".

2nd reaction? That was my first.

I have all the time. And vaginas too. I don't exclude any body part really. There are some humorous places of the body, like what was God thinking?
