Jeez - 10 all - even stevens!

I didn't realise that there were that many poor, pathetic, personality-bypassed, maths nuts here! Razz

Maths is where those people with no other interests hang out! Show me one creative, artistic, even remotely interesting, mathematician / statistician / actuary (watch out for Pyewhackett! Confused )

There are only three kind of A2K'ers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Where some people learned math, I can only guess!

Everything we do comes down to math, the universal language common to all science, music, culture, industry and understanding. Who would you vote for as the Greatest Mathematician of All Time?

1) Sir Isaac Newton
2) Leonardo Pisanot Fibonacci
3) Galileo Galilei
4) Euclid of Alexandria
5) Aristotle
6) Leonhard Euler
7) Blaise Pascal
8) Ptolemy
9) Rene Descartes
10) Charles Babbage
11) Augusta Ada Byron
12) Albert Einstein
13) Florence Nightingale
14) Mary Lucy Cartwright
15) Eratosthenes

(Personally, I'd most like to party with Galileo)!

TGR,

Regardless of the poll there will be a math forum. If current membership didctated what topics were to be covered a demographical change would be less likely.

256 more COOL mathematicians are listed at
scienceworld.wolfram.com, a most bodacious and curvilinear website.

Very Happy Just look at all those numbers! Very Happy

That baby is just NOT well-liked. Sad So far he's been chosen by me, maxsdadeo, and TGR -- anyone else? (I think he goes naturally with "just hatched".)

It is a little odd to have business mixed up with science and math. But why separate math & science? What about engineering? Physics?

BTW -- I'd be interested, CodeBorg, if you (or anybody) would describe who some of those mathematicians were, when they lived and something about their most famous achievements.
