To settle an argument with a friend:
Two Tone and Ska ARE different things arent they?
They are SIMILAR but they arent the same thing.
Thank you.
As far as I am aware, Ska music first originated in the late seventies in the UK, and a record label was started, in order to produce and sell this new type of music, a sort of mix between reggae and punk.
The record label was called "2 Tone"......I may be wrong though.
I'll get back to you.........
Two Tone was a record label who sort of specialised in Ska in the late 70's. Two Tone recordings are recognised by fast tempos, fuller instrumentation and a harder edge than the original ska of the sixties.

Original Ska came about in the 60's.(Toots & The Maytals, The Pioineers etc)
Two Tone was born in the late 70's early 80's. (The Specials and Madness)
And the Third Wave is what we hear now.(The Might Mighty Bosstones and Reel Big Fish etc)
Foxy is correct.....the seventies version of Ska was known as 2 tone (or two tone ) ska, different from the ska of the sixties.

It's funny, but even though I was a massive fan of the above, I never heard their style of music referred to as Ska.
Just reggae.
You learn something every day.......now you have inspired me to dig out my old albums.
Yay! Thank you!!
Now I can live up to my reputation of always being right!!!
