Sonny Rollins, Giant of the Jazz Saxophone, Is Dead at 95

Even by the standards of a music that prizes individuality, he stood out, as both a musician and a personality.
(no paywall)

Rollins was a big influence on my approach to the tenor saxophone. But then again he was a big influence on anyone who seriously listened to jazz.

He was the last surviving musician from the famous 1958 photo "A Great Day in Harlem"
