Who should decide?

Are there any people here in A2K who think that parents, rather than legislative bodies, should be the determinant for setting the allowable age for recreational alcohol consumption...or for that matter, recreational drug use such as marijuana? Should a parent be able to give a youngster a certified note allowing the kid to be served at a bar? If so, perhaps you can set out your reasoning for why you consider that to be appropriate. And if you oppose the notion, perhaps give an indication of why you oppose it.

I expect that I, and others, will link any reasoning/considerations in either direction...to the topic of whether parents or government should be the determining party for setting the allowable age for having gender affirming remedial steps taken for minors contemplating such moves.

And if you think the minors themselves should have the right to make those determination...mention that.
