Weir, a writer, guitar player, and sometimes vocalist for The Grateful Dead (and a ton of side projects after Jerry Garcia's death in '95), passed away today due to cancer. He was 78.

Everything I've ever heard about Bob Weir as a person paints him as really nice guy, very friendly and open. This was corroborated by a friend who worked as a roadie with the Dead for a few years.
