Semi above ground pool

We had a semi above ground pool. A dug out section of 6 ft x 16 ft x 2 foot deep. At the top around the edge we
built a wooden wall. There were buttresses and supports all the way around. This year we took down the wood. It had some mold and rot. My question is. We have a liner that fits but comes above ground 4 ft and inground 2 ft. Would a frame for soft sided pools hold or would a steel frame be better. Or is this possible at all?
