I am looking for Free People Search/Finder Sites on the Internet. Hope someone can help me by listing a number of such sites. Also, can anyone give me a list of websites that list deaths. I'm trying to find out if someone has died. Thank You.

There are many more. Here are three for starters. As far as the Social Security Death Index goes, I don't know how long after a person dies, will his name show up on the index. Also, I think that a relative has had to apply for the social security death benefit before the person is listed. For instance, a lot of my relatives are on the list, but my father isn't.

Along these same lines: Does anyone know how to find out what someone died from or how they died? I know a family member can request a death certificate and that might tell you but Im not a famly member.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe that Death Certificates are a matter of public record and hence available to the public.

Because they are a matter of public record, family doctors have been known to enter "heart failure" as Cause of Death rather than "AID's".

Photomom, you might want to start a new thread on Death Certificates in the Legal forum.
