okay, maybe i cant substantiate it with statistics. i said something before i looked up hard facts. maybe it was just her orphanage, but most of the girls there were molested or raped (including her), and her mother was raped by outside men on several occasions. she knew of specific girls (aged 8-12) who were sold into prostitution. Maybe it was just where she was at. But that was a shocker for me, and is why I said what I said.

Cool And yes, I loved Lagaan; Aamir's Oscar nominated film. First, they spoke English mostly and that little Indian actress, who played Aamir's girl, was so stunning.
Rolling Eyes Wondering what's your age, MinDSay. I am only 18 and a half.
I don't want to publisize my real name over here... Embarrassed no offence ... but you know these search engines... Razz anyway... I know you are 18 and a half... I am almost 20 and 4 months... Razz Laughing

That really sucks. It is probably because of the area she was brought up in. And I agree with you because it must have been because of her orphanage... When people know that this girl doesn't have a family to turn to they think girls are in a vulnrable state.

well its a sad story her's.... but tell me dont rapes occur where you live?

don't orphanages exist where you live (though i dont see how orphanage= degradation of women) ??

is no one is indicted of sexually abusing minors ??

having said that, the "sold into prostitution" bit was a bit too gruesome. can you name the place in india where it ocured... maybe i could alert the authorities.

Anyways, you may call me El. I am into college pursuing Bachelor of Science.
What are you doing over there? College? Job? (Why is it that everyone seems to know my age? Have I revealed it somewhere out here?)

I figure we haven't talked about the actresses yet!!!!

Daniel, I have some idea what your friend and her family must have gone through. But you sound like she's okay for now. Anyways, what is she doing now?

A word here on India. I have been informed that Uttar Pradesh, a state in India, has reported the most number of cases of assault against women. The city (unfortunately in this State) where my Indian relatives dwell, they assert, is not worth living from a female's point of view. My cousin, Lavanya, reports that she is stalked every other day. Sometimes, she and her friends like to hang out at a place in their city that is a popular hang out among youngsters. She says its difficult to pass by the roads without having to be eve teased. I am kinda shocked. It doesn't happen here. My sis is so lucky. Though I feel real sad for our cousin.

Women must contrive some way to get around this eve – teasing business. Learn Karate, Tai Chee and keep a dagger while traveling….eh.

uttar pradesh is part of the BIMARU (sickly) belt of india - made of the names of the 4 lousiest indian states BIhar, MAdhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh - the boondocks of an underdeveloped country.

those arnt too worth living for guys either !!

but i want to know, in doing this knit-picking and witch-hunting an finger-pointing-, who is it from whom you seek to score a few brownie points??

there are worse places in the world.

the divorce rates in india is like 1/500. single mothers are in a lesser ratio still. match that.

and i still dont see how eve-teasing makes that place so unique. as if it doesnt happen in other places !!

Uhhh….?????
I guess the title of the thread is: Why is India so hot? And huh…you all seem to be going ' why she isn't?'

India has been independent for only 58 years (as opposed to more than 200 years of U.S) and boy, wait for another 100 years- if we Indians don't spin the whole world around at the tip of finger…

I mean its kinda mystery why its India almost always blamed for Degeneration of Women. (sorry, you all except Brahmin then haven't heard of Sania mirza and Aishwarya Rai, indira Gandhi)

Bah…..what an abbreviation ..BIMARU , bimaru or whatever- its India…India as a country and we as citizens are responsible to the miserable conditions there.

As a citizen of Uttar Pradesh ( and perhaps the alleged city!), I have learned to tackle eve- teasing : not a big deal. Man, you just got to hack the devil down. HOW DARE ANYONE TOUCH YOU? And eveteasing doesn't happen to me…..not that I am not attractive or anything….i just know how to avoid it. And I'm very young…

couldnt care less and nor does it matter.

countries are not a function of what others think of them, esp from some distant shore.
