His mother Angelina Williams claimed she did not know it was illegal to handcuff a child.

@tanguatlay,
I agree with Roger:

His mother, Angelina Williams, claimed she did not know it was illegal to handcuff a child.

What the hell is the context?!

And FYI? It should be "be enclosed"....

@tsarstepan,

Angela Williams was the mother of this poor child:

Three charged after 6-year-old boy in handcuffs attacked by pit bull in Ashland County

I'd leave a link to the story but it's not the kind of thing I feel good about publicizing in a thread about English grammar and usage.

Why does the context matter?

Am I not allowed to be curious about a super weird sentence? Especially one nonchalantly describing a crime...?

Much appreciated. No link is necessary. That's enough context.

To me, it's a straightforward sentence, nothing weird about it. If it isn't, Roger and hightor would have commented.

Mame commented that no context is necessary, and I agree.

This replaces the earlier post above.

Many of his examples are strange (in an of themselves) and have no context, per se. He is just asking for grammar advice so no context is needed for most of them. When it is, we ask and he provides it.
