There was a lot of story on the back. It's an older stretched linen canvas.
It may have fallen, there's some indications of inexpert repairs, including missing and replaced wedges. This is not the original frame, and there's some staples that would be evidence of an early repair that's been undone. All this suggests a fall off a wall with several repairs before you got it.
On the photo of the frame with writing, it looks older and almost suggests a European hand, maybe an auction or gallery inventory number. For the fun of it, google that number and see where it takes you. I am convinced it is an original Poplaski. The value seem low to me, but low also means it is even less likely that it was faked. I'd hang it and see if I could find a Poplaski admirer site.
