More than half of voters say they’re likely to seek out the newest shot, as Covid cases trend upward and the U.S. heads into its fourth winter with the virus, according to new polling conducted by POLITICO and Morning Consult.

The 57 percent who will “probably” or “definitely” get vaccinated signals that a sizable share of the population remains open to the vaccines, even as they increasingly become the subject of political attacks and disinformation. Many Republicans, led by presidential frontrunners former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, have opposed the Biden administration’s Covid response. On Wednesday, DeSantis’ state surgeon general went as far as discouraging most Floridians from getting the latest booster.

Nearly eight in 10 Democrats, 79 percent, say they will “definitely” or “probably” get the new vaccine, which will be made widely available by the end of this week. But only 39 percent of Republicans expect to seek out the updated shot, reflecting the sharp political divide that’s hampered the Covid response in recent years.....

The polling results show an entrenched bloc of Republicans who are solidly against vaccination, with 44 percent saying they “definitely” won’t get the shot. Another 17 percent said they “probably” won’t seek it out.

@jcboy,
The angering part for me is that the RW resistance to vax and booster is what's driving Covid's new variations.

I don't care if they want to die of this crap, but they risk our heath doing it.

@bobsal u1553115,
It's never been any different; we just know more and sooner than before. People have always been stupid, blind and deaf.

Despite all the vaccinations I did get Covid last year and it was brutal.
It's just awful that every few months a new strain comes along and we need a new vaccine not knowing if it helps.

@CalamityJane,
If everybody would get their vaxx at one time, that would stop the new variations and the current one in it's tracks.

Put the blame where it belongs: MAGAland.

the vaccine decreases the severity of symptoms from covid.

i would much rather get sick and feel like crap for a few days at home than have to endure (and pay for) a lengthy hospital stay...

@roger,
I'll be getting the new flu shot as well, both the same day. I've had COVID three times now, flu symptoms I can handle for a few days. I'm not taking any chances with this new variant. The other half is a nurse practitioner. Cases are on the raise here in California. They're seeing their case loads doubling in just a week!

Looks like the Government is once again sending out free at home COVID tests.

Get four free at-home COVID-19 tests this fall on COVIDTests.gov

Quote:
The U.S. government will continue to make COVID-19 tests available to uninsured individuals and underserved communities through existing outreach programs. Please contact a HRSA health center, Test to Treat site, or ICATT location near you to learn how to access low- or no-cost COVID-19 tests provided by the federal government.
