I understand that you're only going to read about the negatives.

But if I break it down...for one, I really don't want kids. At least right now. And if there's no kids, there's absolutely NO reason for marriage. If/when things don't work out, you can simply walk away from a relationship, while divorce involves lawyers and money.

Plus I just don't envy the married life at all. I like my independence.

I'm married and I don't have kids and I'm not terribly religious. So, what's marriage good for, besides a tax deduction, a funky new name and a buncha wedding gifts? It's just the feeling I have with RP. Yeah, we'd have those feelings even if we weren't married. We just knew, and when we knew we were meant to be together, getting married was a no-brainer. Hard to explain.

PS To be on topic, what's the #1 thing I learned from A2K?

From a Mod/Admin's perspective, the #1 thing I learned is that, just when I think I know every way that someone can possibly spam the site, someone comes up with a new way. Hey, it's ingenuity at it's finest. Smile

Are not de facto relationships recognized legally in the USA? Or is Slappy also speaking of not co-habiting?

Just interested - here, after a few years (I forget how many) de facto relationships have legal status.

more complicated in the US of A, it's a states rights legal issue, in some states such as colorado (common law) marriages are deemed valid by showing "intent" so if you live together (or not) but present as married, (no time frame specified) you are recognized as married by law. Other states vary to zero recognition of "common law" maggiage to varriable specified conditions.

Hmmm - interesting.

I also don't think marriage is as universal or expected as in the US.

I am allergic to it, meself.

But what have I learned from A2k?

Hmmmmm.......lots of stats from Nimh - I just can't remember them offhand - not to be as anti-globalism, from Craven - more about Africa and Central Europe, but not as much as I should know....thinking...
