Commercials have absolutely ruined base ball.
"Commercials have absolutely ruined baseball."
Or has baseball ruined commercials?
Sports are broadcast on free commercial television for one reason: profit. Profit depends on the insertion of commercials at a proper and regular time when the viewer is in an emotional state.
Professional football is the only team sport that survives on commercial television, and this is because of the ability to add commercials at the proper time. With professional football there are many moments when the viewers are in an emotional state, touchdowns, field goals, contested replays, injuries, and quarter and halftime breaks.
It's important that the viewer be in an emotional state when they break for commercial because a person in an emotional or hypnotic state is open to suggestion.
It's no accident that Budweiser and Miller are the two best selling beers in America. It's not because they're better but because they're on football games.
In basketball and hockey, the action is constant with no place to insert commercials. In baseball the commercials are placed after each half inning, and usually there is a lack of action and, therefore, a lack of emotion in the viewer.
