Classified Ads for Merchandise?

Has anyone here ever placed a classified ad to sell anything? Or sold anything off of ebay?

My (now-ex) fiance charged my engagement ring on my credit card & now I need to sell it. Does anyone know if the outlook is good for selling it in the newspaper or ebay? Anyone know any tid-bits -- like that people aren't generally willing to pay more than $1000 if they see it in a classified ad or on ebay?
