I recently accepted a feature whereby all incoming and outgoing emails from my Gmail account also came through my Facebook account and thus I am getting double the notifications which is annoying, how do I turn off this new feature?

Can't you go to your Facebook account settings, select Gmail in the linked accounts section and turn off email notifications?
