Should it be "towards" instead?

Lee said Singapore is making a decisive move toward living with Covid-19, easing travel curbs and other rules while warning that new variants may arise and force renewed restrictions. “The omicron wave has crested and is now subsiding,” Lee said, with case counts and deaths having dropped.

Should it be "towards" (in British English) instead of "toward"?

Thanks
